Bill Split for liquor nights — how it works
April 12, 2026 · MCMM Team
Every motorcycle club has the same problem at the post-ride dinner. Twelve people sit down, the food comes out, the beer keeps coming, and at the end of the night the bill arrives and someone — usually the same someone — has to figure out how to split it.
If everyone drinks the same, easy. Divide by twelve. But that is not how it works in real life. Three of the riders are designated drivers heading home that night. Two are on antibiotics. One brought their kid. The other six closed out the bar.
If you split evenly, the non-drinkers pay for beer they did not touch. If you “do it properly”, you spend twenty minutes squinting at the receipt with a calculator. We have all done both, and neither is good.
The liquor-only line item
The Split Bill module in MCMM has a feature for exactly this: any line item on a split can be marked liquor-only. The math then runs in two parts.
- The food and non-alcohol items are split across everyone at the table.
- Items marked liquor-only are split across only the people who drank.
Each member gets a single number on their phone — what they owe, broken down into “your share of the food” and “your share of the bar”. No spreadsheets, no calculator app, no awkward conversation.
A worked example
Twelve riders sit down for dinner after a Sunday Run. The bill arrives:
- Food and soft drinks: 4,800 baht
- Beer and whisky: 3,600 baht
- Total: 8,400 baht
Three riders are not drinking (Somchai, Nan, and Pim — designated drivers). Nine are.
Without Split Bill, the simplest answer is “8,400 ÷ 12 = 700 per person”. The three non-drinkers each effectively pay 100 baht for alcohol they never had. Annoying.
With Split Bill set up correctly:
- Food share: 4,800 ÷ 12 = 400 baht each, for everyone.
- Liquor share: 3,600 ÷ 9 = 400 baht each, for the nine who drank.
Result:
- Somchai, Nan, Pim: 400 baht each.
- The other nine: 800 baht each.
- Total collected: (3 × 400) + (9 × 800) = 1,200 + 7,200 = 8,400 baht. The math closes.
Each rider sees their own number on their phone, with the breakdown. Settlements happen through the same automatic bank-slip verification as the rest of the platform — upload a slip, get a green check, the admin sees the dashboard update.
Why this matters
The liquor-only feature is small. It is also the difference between people enjoying the evening and people quietly resenting the bill. Clubs run on goodwill. Goodwill runs on fairness. And fairness, in this case, is one toggle on a line item.
If your club has been splitting evenly out of laziness or splitting by spreadsheet out of stubbornness, charter your club on MCMM and try the liquor-only split on your next post-Run dinner. Everyone goes home happy.
